Test Preparation : Timed Practice |
Taking
an ACT test preparation course or getting help from a private ACT
tutor is a good idea for many students studying for this important
entrance exam. The professionals can help you learn the question
types, teach you test-taking strategies, and serve as a resource
for useful testing materials.
What
do the Professionals Say?
Practice
with a timer!
The
ACT is often the first timed standardized test that students encounter.
WIth so much riding on this test, it is easy to become overwhelmed
when timing becomes an important score factor. Practicing ahead
of time with real ACT questions will prepare you for the types of
questions that appear on the test. But this is only half of the
solution - the other part is taking these practice tests WITH A
TIMER. Unfortunately, it does not matter that you can answer all
of the questions correctly if you cannot finish your test on time.
Using
a timer, specifically
THE SILENT TIMER™,
is an inexpensive way to significantly improve your score. Learning
the pacing skills to beat the test's time limit is a great comfort
on test day. Even if you cannot bring the timer into the test (sometimes
it is not allowed, depends on your proctor), you will have already
developed a pacing strategy to move steadily through your exam.
After all of your hard work and practice, you have trained your
mind to answer the questions in the allotted time, so now all you
concentrate on is answering the questions correctly!

What are the top 3 best ways to study
for the ACT?
PRACTICE,
PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
Practice tests
are the key to performing well on the ACT. Using past ACT exams
allows you to become more familiar with the test's format, the type
of questions, and difficulty levels. The ACT
web site has information on past tests, practice questions,
and prep courses.
But just using
the past tests is not enough. Test prep experts agree that practicing
UNDER TIMED CONDITIONS best prepares you for the
pressures of test day. Even if you cannot bring the timer into your
test, THE
SILENT TIMER™ is still the
number one practice tool.

| How
does The Silent Timer™ Improve Pacing? |
|
Often the ACT is the first timed standardized tests students encounter.
Most state tests are not timed. Therefore, even capable, intelligent
students get stuck on the ACT because they cannot manage their time.
The
ability to answer the questions correctly does not matter
if you cannot finish the test on time. |
Use THE
SILENT TIMER™ to help with
pacing.
Our timer isn't
JUST a quiet timer; it also will help train your brain to spend
the correct amount of time on each test question. Using a patent
pending process,
THE SILENT TIMER™takes your
test time and number of questions.
It then tells
you exactly how
much time you can spend on each question before you are losing
time on the rest of your exam. By using this process in practice,
you will be able to increase your answering speed far beyond what
you thought possible. Learn to beat your test time and get the score
you deserve.
